From Sketch to Silk: The Equestrian Scarf
The Equestrian Scarf is inspired by the richness of British wildlife, and brings together the strength of the horse, the fox camouflaged in the centre, and the vibrant flight of pheasants, robins and butterflies, woven together in a chestnut and olive autumnal colour palette. A piece inspired by Emily's childhood in the country, where she was riding from an early age, this scarf is an ode to British culture and wildlife.
Peacock butterflies are flying alongside the birds in this design - common across the UK, these butterflies are known for their distinctive eye-spots that resemble a peacock’s tail feathers. They can live up to 11 months, spending some of that time hibernating, and when startled, they produce a hissing sound by rubbing their wings together.
Foxes can be found camouflaged in the middle of the design, and are intelligent and adaptable animals found in environments ranging from cities to the Arctic. They are solitary hunters with a complex communication system that includes over 28 different calls.
Horses have many unique traits: they can sleep both standing and lying down, can walk and run shortly after birth, and possess nearly 360-degree vision thanks to their large eyes and excellent hearing. Notably, horses cannot breathe through their mouths.
