From Sketch to Silk: The Parrot & Passion Flower Scarf
The Parrot & Passion Flower Scarf draws its vibrant inspiration from tropical botanicals and wildlife, and Dutch still life paintings. Exotic parrots perch amidst blooming passion flowers, with delicate French baroque details and ceramics, encompassed by a subtle pastel colour palette of florals and fruit. The intricate presence of the snake adds a subtle narrative to the design: once a predator of the lizard, the snake has now been captured by the parrots - while the lizard, in turn, preys on the wasp. All elements in this design were hand drawn by Emily with pen & paper.
Parrots are vibrant, intelligent birds known for their strong beaks, ability to mimic sounds, including human speech and impressive problem-solving skills, with some species living over 50 years. Passion flowers are unique plants whose intricate structure was symbolically interpreted by Spanish missionaries to represent the Passion of Christ, with petals, tendrils, and filaments corresponding to elements of the crucifixion. The Mangshan pit viper, a rare and striking snake native to southern China, is notable for its distinctive appearance, specialized hunting techniques, and unusual reproductive behavior.
