From Sketch to Silk: The Frog & Kingfisher Scarf
The Frog & Kingfisher Scarf features a detailed riverbank scene drawn from native British wildlife. A kingfisher perches above the water, with its iridescent blue feathers mirrored in the tones of the design. Below, a common frog sits among lily pads, while an adder weaves through reeds. Fish swim beneath the surface, and dragonflies hover among waterlilies.
Common frogs and carp featured in this design are two fascinating freshwater creatures found across the UK and Europe, each with unique traits from the frog’s smooth, coluor-changing skin to the carp’s strong, adaptable nature. While frogs use croaks to attract mates, carp are celebrated in Japan as symbols of love and perseverance.
Each element individually illustrated by Emily, inspired by the river at the end of her countryside garden, which she frequently visited as a child. Printed on silk twill with hand-rolled edges, and as always, proudly made in England.
